I decided to start my YouTube channel because I want to allow people to have a window into the reality of capturing beautiful shots and to the amount of failure that all photographers, regardless of level, will experience. This is a passion that requires a considerable amount of resilience, but when you look in the back of the camera and realise that you just might have ‘that shot’, wow, the buzz makes it all worth it.
This channel is about landscape photography; travelling the UK and beyond in my van and trying to capturing the beauty of what I see with my camera. The excitement of planning a shoot, loading up the van and travelling to a destination along with the buzz of witnessing the dynamic changes in a scene just can't be beaten.
So often I used to look at an image and assume that the scene a photographer had captured had just happened to unfold in front of them. I would look in awe and with a tinge of jealousy that I was never ‘that lucky’! I had little appreciation of the behind the scenes planning that went into capturing a unique image. I found a few photographers online whose approach and photography style I really enjoyed, and learned enormous amounts from their work, refining and developing my photography in response.
This is where YouTube becomes personal; we feel a connection with those we follow, they shape us, prompt us to think differently and perhaps to try something new. I thank those who shaped my approach to photography and hope that I may, in turn, encourage and support you as you follow my journey of improvement, my challenges and successes.
